- Delta sleep-inducing peptide is a naturally occurring nonapeptide first isolated in 1974 from the blood of sleeping rabbits. Its mechanism is not fully understood, but it appears to influence sleep-regulating and stress-response pathways and is degraded quickly in blood. It has been studied in small human and animal experiments for sleep, stress, pain, and substance withdrawal, and it is not approved for any medical use.
