About GHK
- What it is
- Tripeptide-1 is the cosmetic name for glycyl-histidyl-lysine, a naturally occurring human tripeptide first isolated from plasma. It is the copper-free form; in the body and in formulations it readily binds copper to form the GHK-Cu complex, and much of the regenerative, gene-modulating activity in the literature is attributed to that copper-bound form. In topical products the copper-free peptide is used for proposed skin-conditioning effects.
- How it works
- It binds copper and can modulate expression of genes involved in tissue remodeling, though most documented effects require the copper-bound form.
